On Pixels and Palettes
I was bitten by the 8-bit bug, and had to do something about it. This is going to be brief for fear of playing cards too soon, but there’s a project brewing, based on a new “vintage”-style engine. And like all vintage remakes, it takes inspiration from the past and adds some polish from the present. Here’s a screen shot that demonstrates some of the features:
Features Shown:
- Platform Independent Core
- 256 Colors!
- All Software Rendering
- Five Render Modes including Blending & Additive
- Custom Pixel Shader Support
- All Integer Math
- Proprietary Uniform Graphics Format
- Font Support with Text Highlighting
- Built-in Text Menus
Features Not Shown:
- Animation
- Sprite Creation Tool
- Exclusive Keyboard Input Capture
- Full Screen Mode
- Render to Target Buffers
Note: The artwork shown is for demonstration purposes only, and does not reflect the forthcoming project in any way. Now shh… don’t tell anyone about this until I have something more to show.
